Having a great home theater system is good and all, but there are just times when you want to keep whatever you’re watching (and hearing) all to yourself.

In these cases, what do you do? Do you keep the volume down and the speakers close to you? Or, do you mute it altogether and just rely on the subtitles? Or, maybe, you just decide to stop watching and leave it for another time?

All three choices make for a less-than-ideal situation.

Luckily, these situations are easily solved by having a trusty pair of bluetooth TV headphones with you.

Unfortunately, you can’t just pick up any other wireless headphones and be done with it. A lot of factors go into choosing the right wireless headphones for TV use. This includes the audio clarity and how long you can use the headphones until you’ll need to charge not.

Not to mention, there’s the fact that you can’t always simply connect wireless headphones to TV as you would a typical wired headphones.

With that said, we have decided to compile a list of 4 of different wireless headphones that you can choose from, each separated based on a combination of everyone’s different needs, budgets, and preferences.

Why it’s good

  • Priced at below the $100 range
  • Easy plug-and-play setup
  • Comes with a Class 1 Bluetooth transmitter
  • Capable of supporting up to 2 headphones at the same time
  • Supports aptX HD and aptX Low Latency codec
  • Allows you to listen from wireless headphones and a wired speaker simultaneously via the bypass mode
  • Long battery life (40 hours of playback time)

What is it lacking

  • No charging and hanging dock means you’ll have to buy a different case or dock to store the headphones and you’ll need someplace safe to charge it when not in use.
  • Outside of volume control, there’s a severe lack of controls available readily on the ear cups.

Everyone prefers to watch their favourite shows their own way. Some like it loud, while some like it a little bit more quiet.  You can check excellent recommendations on Headphones Aholic as well.

If you’re the sort to want to listen to audio as if you were right there with the actors but don’t necessarily want to alienate the rest of your family during movie night, the HT5009 comes with a bypass mode that allows you to listen on the wireless headphones while the rest can listen on wired speakers.

Also, with an effective range of about 30 meters (100ft), you won’t have any problems listening to what’s happening while walking to the kitchen and back.

Lastly, the Avantree HT5009 comes with a plug-and-play setup. All you need to do is to plug the transmitter in and it will pair with the headphones right away. It is that simple.

With an estimated 40 hour battery life and a sub $100 price tag, finding something as good as the Avantree HT5009 for watching TV is a tough ask.

Noontec Hammo TV HeadphoneWhy it’s good:

  • Incredibly long battery life, with as much as 50 hrs of playback time
  • Capable of supporting aptX codec
  • Easy to set-up (plug-and-play)
  • Above-average sound quality
  • Comes with its own docking station for easy and safe keeping.

What is it lacking

  • While the Noontec Hammo TV does come with a docking station, you’ll still need to charge it via a cable.
  • Squeaky and plasticky feel gives the Noontec Hammo TV Headphone a less-than-ideal feel.

Binge-watchers, say no more.

The Noontec Hammo TV Headphone is the perfect pair of headphones for anyone who prefers watching entire seasons in one sitting.

With a whopping 50 hours of playback time, running out of batteries in the middle of the season is out of the question. You’d have probably already finished an entire season’s worth of episodes first before you’d need to recharge the Noontec Hammo TV Headphone.

Also, because the Noontec Hammo TV are Bluetooth headphones, you won’t always need to use the docking station or transmitter that it comes with for it to work.

sennheiser 195Why it’s good:

  • It comes with its very own charging dock
  • 7 different EQ presets so you can customize the listening experience according to your own preferences.
  • Comes with “speech mode” for times when you want to really listen to what the characters of the show that you’re watching are talking about.
  • You can increase the dynamic range of the music you’re listening to with “music mode”.
  • Capable of supporting up to 2 headphones at the same time.
  • Easy plug-and-play setup

What is it lacking:

  • A huge discount, perhaps? At a $500 price point, the Sennheiser RS 195 isn’t cheap.
  • Despite its price, leatherette ear pads do not feel as luxurious and it should have come with genuine leather ear pads by default.

There’s good, and then there’s great.

The RS 195 is great.

Coming at a $500 price point, the Sennheiser RS 195 won’t be mistaken for an entry-level headphone. It’s not even mid-level. It’s right up there among the high-end pieces of audio equipment.

Not that the RS 195 doesn’t deserve to be there though.

Whether you have hearing loss or not, the RS 195 will let you hear every bit of detail from whatever show it is you’re watching. This makes it the perfect audio companion for those who love watching dialogue-heavy shows, like, for example, the recently-concluded Game of Thrones HBO TV series.

Also, thanks to the collaboration between Sennheiser and Fraunhofer Institute, the Sennheiser RS 195 allows those with hearing loss to adjust the volume on each ear to balance out the sound.

Sennheiser RS 175Why it’s good:

  • Plug-and-play setup for ease of use
  • Comes with “Bass Boost” mode for improved overall listening experience.
  • Cable-free charging.
  • Cleverly placed controls on the ear cups.
  • Support for up to 2 headphones at the same time.

What is it lacking:

  • No RCA jacks and adaptors, making it impossible to listen to audio using older TVs on the Sennheiser RS 175.
  • Leatherette ear pads have been known to shed after extended use, especially in humid environments.

Plug-and-play? Check.

Comes with its very own external transmitter? Of course!

Can run for an estimated 18 hours? Why, yes!

Cable-free charging? Absolutely.

The Sennheiser RS 175 comes last on our round up, but it’s certainly not the least. In fact, it could be considered as the best bluetooth TV headphone of the lot.

Although the 18 hours playback time isn’t revolutionary by any means, it is decent. Not to mention, when it comes with incredibly clear audio quality, especially given its $200 price point, and cable-free charging, you’ll take any of the quirks that this headphone comes with knowing that the pros far outweigh the cons.
