What Is Forex?
The foreign exchange market is the “place” where currencies are traded. It is the number one industry in the world. Why? Because currencies need to be exchanged in order to conduct foreign trade and business. For example if you are living in the U.S. and want to buy milk from France, either you or the company that you buy the milk from has to pay the French for the milk in euros (EUR). This means that the U.S. importer would have to exchange the equivalent value of U.S. dollars (USD) into euros. The same goes for traveling. A French tourist in Egypt can’t pay in euros to see the pyramids because it’s not the locally accepted currency. As such, the tourist has to exchange the euros for the local currency, in this case the Egyptian pound, at the current exchange rate.
There are two types of trading:
Offline trading is when you don’t buy/sell currency online. That is when you place your order to a broker who then buys or sells them for you.
Online trading is the act of placing buy/sell orders for financial securities and/or currencies with the use of a brokerage’s internet-based proprietary trading platforms.
But before you can trade online, you have to select an online broker. Your online broker will execute your trades and store your money in an account. The online trading industry has seen lots of mergers and acquisitions, but there are still many firms to choose from. Different firms also offer different levels of help, account types and other services.
