Negosentro.com | 7 Ways to Beat the Boredom When Indoors | Summer is a time for fun in the great outdoors. Beaches, lakes, hiking, sports, and bike rides all come to mind. Unfortunately, it can’t all be sunshine and fluffy clouds; sometimes, it rains. Even the recent heat waves in the west are keeping families indoors, trying to stay cool.

Luckily, your family doesn’t have to be bored or at loose ends when forced inside. They are a ton of fun activities that will keep you and your kids entertained until the sun comes out again. Here’s a list of ideas to get you started.

  1. Virtual Fun

When you are looking for something fun to do indoors, the first stop is usually the internet. There are plenty of fun activities for kids and families online. Print out some coloring pages and grab some colored pencils for coloring fun.

You play simple games online, too, like solitaire, hearts, candy match games, and more. For the more adventurous types, try an exciting online escape room. The possibilities are endless.

  1. Movies

Who says a day indoors has to be active? Sometimes the best thing you can do on a rainy day is curl up with some popcorn and watch movies. This can be a fun bonding time with your kids. Cue up their favorites and throw in a few new (appropriate) selections to make some treasured memories.

If you have space and the means, you can make it extra special by relocating the tv/projector to a sunporch or screen room where you can safely be surrounded by the rainy ambiance outside. Be sure to have plenty of snacks and drinks and a comfy place to curl up.

  1. Homemade Games

Homemade games can be a fun, interactive way to pass the time inside. Grab some paper towel rolls and a small ball, and you can set up a bowling alley in the hallway. A cardboard box with a couple of holes cut out can make an excellent putt-putt game. Use some masking tape and make a hopscotch game on the floor. The possibilities are endless.

  1. Baking

Baking treats is a good activity for rainy days. You can easily involve the kiddos by letting them pick out the recipes, assemble the ingredients, and even mix their own little batch. Get creative by breaking out the food coloring and icing. Use weird ingredients, like sprinkles in chocolate chip cookies, to spice things up. Don’t be afraid of a mess; you can always make another game of cleaning up. The best part: you get to eat a snack when you’re done!

  1. Blanket fort

What’s a rainy day indoors without a blanket fort? Have the kids get some sheets and light blankets and start draping. You can use chairs, backs of couches, benches, and even doors as anchor points for your fort. Decorate the inside with pillows and fluffy blankets. Remember a flashlight or battery-powered lantern.

Once inside, let your imagination take control. Playing make-believe can last for hours. If things get stale, try having reading time with their favorite books or make shadow puppets on the walls. This is also an excellent setting for nap time.

  1. Hide and Seek

Even small houses and apartments have room to play hide and seek. Instead of an “it” if caught game, try rotating the seeker to make things fairer. Try playing flash games when hiders only have a very short time to hide before being sought. There are many variations to this classic game.

  1. Sing-a-Longs

You may have already had a sing-a-long during the movies, but a separate karaoke session can be a lot of fun. Many streaming services and DVDs offer sing-a-long tracks on kid’s movies. Alternatively, you can cue up favorite songs on the stereo and have a ball singing along with the music.

There are many ways to beat the boredom of being indoors. All it takes is a little imagination and willingness to have a lot of fun.
