Microwave Antenna

Some might feel that radio point-to-point or radio ptp is an old technology but you will be astonished to know about its importance in modern times to. Have you heard about microwave antennas? If you have heard about microwave antennas than you might also know on which technology microwave antennas work. If you have not heard about the technology on which microwave antennas work then it is our responsibility to make you know that microwave antennas work on the technology based on radio ptp or radio point-to-point.

Can You Imagine the Importance of Microwave Antennas?

If not then listen. The network operators of your cell phones uses microwave antennas to communicate with each and every network towers. All the cell towers are connected to each other by means of microwave antenna. And for your information this link between each and every cell tower is possible just because of the technology named radio point-to-point or radio ptp connection.

Just imagine yourself sitting idle for some minutes or hours without surfing internet for sometimes. Will you be able to spend those moments without internet  or without using your cell phone. Your answer will be definitely a big no. Life will be useless to some of you without your cell phone. This problem is mitigated by the technology of radio point-to-point or radio ptp. Then how could one say that radio ptp or radio point-to-point is an old technology. If they still say that radio point-to-point or radio ptp is an old technology then just take his/her cell phone away from him and see his reactions.

Types of Microwave Antennas

In the former paragraph we have learnt about usefulness of microwave antennas, now in this paragraph we will see how many types of microwave antennas are there are try to explain each of them briefly. Some of the types of microwave antennas are as follows: Micro Strip Patch Antenna,  Horn Antennas, Parabolic Antenna, Plasma Antennas, MIMO Antennas

Let’s see what first two of them signifies and where they are used

Micro Strip Patch Antenna

In the year of 1953 the concept of micro strip patch antenna was established but in reality it was developed in the year 1970. The main advantage of using micro strip antenna is it is less costly, its volume is low, it also weighs less and most importantly its compatibility with different IC’s (Integrated Circuits)

  • It has a wide range of applications in
  1. GPS
  2. Mobile phones and in many more devices and applications

Horn Antennas

The evolution of horn antennas is from the idea that antennas are the region where connections are established between guided and the propagating waves. It is similar to parabolic antennas but are used in micro wave frequencies when less power gain is needed

  • Applications of horn antennas
  1. Radio Point-to-Point or radio ptp communications if used as a parabolic antenna
  2. Used in microwave frequencies when power gain needed is moderate else parabolic antenna is used

Hope you have understood that radio ptp is not an old fashioned technology after reading this blog carefully. Lets sometime in any other blog discuss about rest of the three types of microwave antenna.
