NEGOSENTRO.COM | In the Philippines, less than 10% of the population have access to piped sewerage systems, furthermore 80% of the water consumed or used, commonly referred to as “wastewater,” drains out into the bodies of water. Consequently, years of neglect, poor management, and unimproved sanitation facilities have resulted to serious threats to public health, as well as increased damage to our ecosystems and biodiversity.

Under the National Sewerage and Septage Management Program, about P200 million was made available as a subsidy for sewerage and septage projects that local government units (LGUs) can avail of for their sanitation program.

“However, wastewater treatment and septage management is generally known to be so expensive and need a lot of manpower to handle and maintain such services,” said Eros Kaw, CEO of BioCleaner Incorporated. We at BioCleaner wants to come in and offer our services to help address these problems, and hopefully the LGU’s, by providing affordable and effective wastewater treatment and septage management at a very minimal cost,” Eros added.

In addition to the initial capital expenditure, these facilities incur huge operating costs and human resource requirement. Moreover, there are serious concerns over the hazardous nature of the wastewater management process that exposes the sanitation crew to health risks while sludge handling proved to be costly and can leave contaminants that poison the environment.

However, US-based biotech company BioCleaner puts forward the most practical answer to the country’s sewerage and septage problem. “We are confident that our system can effectively and efficiently deal wastewater treatment and septage management with minimal costs that is also proven to be super safe to both people and the environment,” says Kaw.

Developed in the US and with a Green Patent A, BiocCleaner is the first non-chemical water cleaning facility that utilizes the power of nature to produce a biological solution that treats contaminated water and different types of organic waste.

“For a little amount of energy, our system can create microbes that are graded as Biosafety level 1, meaning it is suitable for work with well-characterized agents that does not cause disease in healthy humans. These good microbes clean the nitrate, phosphate and metals in the water, as well as remove sludge and bad odor,” explains Kaw. “Moreover, it’s portable, compact, and modular that can fit different requirements. So if you want a good system with low operating costs and pass environmental standards, ours is the most affordable.”

BioCleaner revolutionary technology can be applied in residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal sectors. For years, the system had been utilized to clean natural bodies of water in China, Indonesia, and the US. Now, the company aims to expand its presence in the local market, specifically to the water districts.

“Outside of NCR, we would like to offer a sewerage system at a price of P25 per cubic meter of water and septage treatment at P2 per cubic meter, so basically it’s a third of the costs of other systems are asking for. The water districts are into water distribution, but not much is being done and with the waste water system and septage management. That’s the main thing we want to do in the Philippines, and we want to do it at a cheap price.

We are also willing to invest. The local government doesn’t have to turn over the water distribution rights to us. Through PPP, the local government units can work with us as our partners. We also welcome other investors who are interested in our biotech system,” adds Kaw.
