Television shows often fall into the same mind-numbingly similar mold. The format of daytime variety shows and nighttime dramas have not changed much throughout the years, and there is rarely any content that is informative and educational outside of the evening news. The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and its DOSTv initiative seeks to break that mold with their weekly program, Siyensikat. The DOST is the department of the Philippine Government responsible for the coordination of science and technology-related projects in the Philippines, and Siyensikat showcases projects in different fields that positively impact the people affected by them. Through Siyensikat, the DOST hopes to inform and inspire the general public with what can be accomplished through science, technology, and innovation.

Siyensikat’s tagline, “Science for the People”, is fitting as it describes what the programs of the DOST hope to accomplish. Siyensikat, hosted by DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña, is a magazine reality science show which contains the testimonials and features of “Transforming lives through science, technology, and innovation”. Siyensikat shows audiences how the projects are accomplished, how they help, and how ordinary people can benefit from it. This is a 30-minute magazine reality science show which highlights the fulfillment of dreams and gratefulness of ordinary people to DOST.
