With the amazing new line of supercars released in both 2017 and 2018, there are so many reasons why these childhood dreams should be revived and updated.
With the amount of new technology available on the market today, cars are producing unprecedented power figures, from the factory. Many manufacturers are pushing the envelopes of what their cars are capable of and what they are imagining for future vehicles. Modern technology has not only allowed for power increases, but large innovations in aerodynamics and weight reduction.
This is just a short list of the modernized cars that every child has once dreamed of. Looking forward, at the pace that technology is moving, these cars may soon be a thing of the past. As you read, be aware that all of the listed prices are subject to change due to the increasing demand and rarity of each of these cars.
2017 Bugatti Chiron
The Chiron is the descendant of the well-known Bugatti Veyron; the former fastest production car in the world. With an almost 400 more horsepower than the Veyron, the Chiron houses some of Bugatti’s latest technology and engineering advancements.
Performance
With an engine that produces 1500 horsepower and 1180 lb-ft of torque, the Bugatti Chiron is no slouch. The Chiron houses an 8.0-liter W-16 cylinder that utilizes four turbochargers to achieve its insane power figures. Power is placed to the ground through an all-wheel drive system that maintains traction through 4 wide Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
Exterior
Bugatti did not use the $17,000 Michelin PAX tires on the Chiron but replaced the tires with less expensive, yet better, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The Chiron not only has a rear wing that adjusts based on the vehicle’s speed, but also has front aero pieces that adjust their tilt based on the speed of the Chiron. As with the Veyron, the Chiron is hand-painted and hand-built.
2014 Lamborghini Veneno Roadster
The Veneno is Lamborghini’s most expensive car to date. At a whopping $4.5 million dollars, the Veneno has way more to offer than just the Lamborghini name alone. Compared to its cheaper and rarer coupe version, in which only 3 models were made, Lamborghini created 9 Veneno Roadsters.
Performance
The Veneno is powered by a 6.5 liter V12 engine. The V12 engine makes the Veneno extremely quick and allows it to achieve 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds. The Veneno’s V12 engine is capable of producing 740 hp and 507 lb-ft of torque. These numbers all attribute to the Veneno’s top speed of 221 mph.
Exterior
The exterior bodywork of the Veneno is extravagant and based off of the Aventador. The wing and rear diffuser of the Veneno, in themselves, are intricate. The Veneno Roadster also houses carbon fiber wheels that decrease the weight of the convertible.
2017 Ford GT
Ford offers a wide range of vehicles, but the Ford GT is the outlier among all of the Ford models. Originally created in 2005, as a sort of revival of the original GT40, the Ford GT disappeared from the market in 2006. It was not until 2016 that Ford revived the GT that you see today, a creation to mark the 50th anniversary of the first Le Mans win of the GT40. Due to high demand and low production numbers, the new Ford GT is nearly impossible to obtain; upsetting many customers who purchased previous GT models (Click here to view an in-depth explanation of the allocation process). With 750 Ford GT models having been produced by Ford, the GT is Ford’s entry to the supercar market.
Performance
The 2017 Ford GT houses a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that produces 647 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque. Even more special about the GT’s engine is that it is an Eco Boost engine, which means that the engine was designed with fuel efficiency in mind. However, unlike most of Ford’s Eco Boost engines, the 2017 GT achieves a small 11 mpg city and 18 mpg highway fuel efficiency figure. This fuel efficiency number isn’t all too horrible for a car that weighs 3,000 pounds and produces 647 horsepower.
Exterior
The Ford GT is light due to its carbon fiber and aluminum construction; even the wheels are constructed with carbon fiber. The GT features active aerodynamic parts from Ford; parts, such as the wing, adjust their positions according to vehicle speed. The suspension adjusts according to each mode of the car; adjusting suspension stiffness and ride height as the modes are changed.
