Mary Rae Floresca |Negosentro.com | Taking care of yourself is not the vainest thing to do. You may take as many selfies as you want in places you go to, or maybe at work. But it’s still important to invest in yourself. Why? How are you going to work and save up for your future? You are your own investment, and this is how you do it:

1. Exercise

What do you do first thing in the morning? I bet it’s checking your work e-mails or social media updates. Could you pause and think of the next five minutes that it is worth doing? Get up and go for a quick run, aside from getting fit and weight loss, jogging every morning expands your life. In an article from livestrong.com, they stated that jogging for at least one hour per week can add several years to your life. A recent Copenhagen City Heart study published in the “European Society of Cardiology” presented data that revealed jogging regularly can increase life expectancy by five to six years in men and women.

2. Get enough sleep

Don’t tire yourself from working as an all-nighter everyday, give yourself enough hours of sleep. Especially when your career needs continuous learning and leadership, you really need rest. Health.com quoted, “If you are trying to learn something, whether it’s physical or mental, you learn it to a certain point with practice,” says Dr. Rapoport, who is an associate professor at NYU Langone Medical Center. “But something happens while you sleep that makes you learn it better.”

3. Be presentable

When you invest in yourself, it’s not limited to staying healthy. While the quote “Don’t judge a book by its cover” still exists, it doesn’t apply to judging people. Your appearance is the first thing that people would notice, and when you look put-together, you look like you are well-rounded and career go-getter. You may need to put an extra effort in looking polished by wearing the right tailor-fit pieces in your wardrobe or basic grooming like cleaning your nails, manly shave and a good haircut.

4. Undergo simple emotional therapy

Log out from social media even you get updated with necessary news, your timeline on Facebook are surely cluttered with rants, unnecessary gossips and many other negativity that suck up a beautiful day. Let go of the stories you kept replaying about the past and the worries. Stop over-analyzing or overthinking that may lead to drastic decisions. Listen to your instinct, your intuition, and most importantly, pray.

When you look after yourself, you get to realize how efficient you are and eventually, you will work faster and even earn more money. You have extra time to learn new things and make efforts to the necessary things in life. You attract potential clients or networks you need for your career, you’re putting yourself out there, waiting to be known by people. When you invest in yourself, you’re defining yourself as a well-invested individual that people will make time for you and get yourself positively remembered.
