Let’s get into the hype of the book Me Before You by Jojo Moyes,shall we? Here are lessons that this hit book-turned-movie taught us.
1. Wear whatever you want
Louisa Clark (played by Emilia Clarke) is fond of wearing crazy looking tights and dresses that makes her look quite peculiar. She doesn’t mind what people think of what she wears, she knows what she’s comfortable with. Like her, come up with your own signature style that makes people remember you, make sure it’s a pleasant or decent one. Take it from this quote from the book, “Astonishingly, not all girls get dressed just to please men.”
2. Grab opportunities
Lou lost her job at coffee shop, it really did make her sulk but she was offered another job which is to work for Will Traynor (played by Sam Clafin). She did not have any experience in caring for quadriplegic patients before but she grabbed the opportunity because she knows she needs a job. Today, it is not possible, not to have a job. Even when Lou is still single, a grown woman, she has to work for herself and for her family.
3. Be Positive
If your work environment is not what you expected to be, well, think about Louisa’s situation. At first, she ranted about her work on and on but she still she didn’t give up. Be patient with what you are facing, challenges will always be there but think positively that you could get through it. Find and recall the reasons why you are at that job, in time, you will know your role and purpose in that job.
4. Strengths
Figure out your strengths. I think Louisa nailed her interview with Mrs. Traynor. She did duck out and run, instead she fought for the position she was applying for. She is not an experienced caregiver, but she knows she’s that young and strong to be committed to that kind of job. Think about your strengths that will make you stand out, whether you’re applying for a job or working already.
5. Live your life
“You only get one life… it’s your duty to live it as fully as possible,” Will Traynor said. This is probably one of the most popular quotes we read from the book. Will has influenced Lou in different things. While she is contented with her simple life, he encouraged Lou to take advantage of life that she has. Will is already limited but instead, she pushed Lou. Like her, push yourself to watch movies, read magazines, books, do anything you haven’t done yet. Seize every moment, don’t settle with what you have, aim for more experiences in life.
