by Kyla Camille Nievera, Negosentro.comIf I told that CEO’s are not the people most responsible for leadership within a company you might laugh at me right? The truth of the matter is we can learn a lot more about leadership from the number two executive at most companies rather than the CEO. At least that’s according to research from the NASP. CEO’s are often the face of an organization and in many instances global icons.  The number two is often the person in charge of doing the dirty work including the behind the scenes work.

To help better profile the work the second in command business leaders, Topgrading has created an infographic that highlights the notable accomplishments of these behind the scenes executives. They took an in-depth look at the second-in-command executives at twenty five of the most iconic American companies. They profiled executives from major American companies like Twitter, Amazon, Google, Tesla, Facebook, Apple, Whole Foods, Starbucks and Nike.

There is a diverse set of background for many of these executives coming from many different backgrounds and life experiences. Most of them have been with their companies for several decades, however there a few exceptions that stand out.  Anthony Noto of Twitter has only been with the company for 3 years and in his current role for barely over a year. Keith Brock of Salesforces has only been in with the company and in his current role for just over 4 years. There are other people like Andy Jassy of Amazon who have been with the company for over 20 years, but have only recently got promoted to second in command. David Bronczek of FedEx is a more extreme example having been with FedEx for over 41 years, but has only been President and COO for a year.
