via The Medical City |  The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Program of The Medical City won the Excellence Award at the recent Asian Hospital Management Awards (AHMA). The program won in the Physician Leadership category which recognizes the involvement of physicians in the improvement of services and care.

The AHMA acknowledge and honour hospitals in Asia that implement best practices. Now in its 16th year, it is the accepted hospital management awards program for the Asia Pacific region. Awards are given to hospitals that have implemented or enhanced outstanding and innovative projects, programs, and best practices during a specific period of time.
This year, AHMA received 418 award entries from 102 hospitals in 17 countries. Winners were announced last August 24 at the Hospital Management Asia 2017 Gala Dinner at Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila.
The title of the entry which won the Excellence Award is FROM AWARENESS TO ACCEPTANCE, THE ENHANCED RECOVERY AFTER SURGERY (ERAS) PROGRAM GAINS ADHERENCE AT THE MEDICAL CITY authored by Dr. Manuel Francisco Roxas, head of the Department of Surgery and Colorectal Clinic, and surgeon leader of the TMC ERAS team; TMC ERAS team members anesthesiologist Dr. Celina Ancheta and medical nutritionist Dr. Marianna Sioson, and ERAS nurse Jaymee Sanchez.
The ERAS Program is a multidisciplinary approach aimed at improving patient outcomes and hastening recovery after surgery. This project illustrated how TMC successfully adapted and implemented the program through a strong physician leadership, a cohesive team, and support from management.
Dr. Roxas, the physician leader for this program, is both an expert and an impassioned champion who was able to bring together the different specialties and employ a whole new integrated approach in the care of colorectal surgery patients. The award is TMC’s 6th from AHMA since 2010.
