Digital evangelist and serial techpreneur, Homer “Homerun Nievera, was at it again.

As guest speaker in yesterday’s Entrepreneur and Franchise Expo held at the Megatrade Hall of SM Megamall in Pasig City, Nievera reiterated the call for Filipino entrepreneurs to embrace technology or risk being left behind in the global economic race for billionaire techpreneurs.

In his talk on the “5 Technologies that Shall Affect Businesses in 5 Years,” Nievera told the entrepreneurial audience to look around them and see why the youth are on mobile devices and why they, too, need to ride the trend.

Showing studies on Filipino Internet and mobile usage, Nievera — also known as Homerun Nievera in the techpreneurial circle — told the audience to look into the new market called the “Millennials” as they will be the main market for all things digital and be the biggest consumers in the next 5 years. Millennials, he says, are those born from 1981 to 1997.

“If you do not have a Facebook account and are raring to go into business today, maybe you have been hiding in a cave,” Nievera said as he emphasized the need to start looking into mobile social commerce as the coming trend in ecommerce, brought about by Facebook’s recent launch of the “Buy” button.

“In fact, Google has recently changed its algorithm to encourage responsive designs for websites to move businesses towards mobile-optimized sites,” added Nievera, to stress the need to integrate mobile marketing strategies into their business plans.

What did he advise budding techpreneurs? Nievera said that, “as we are looking for the next tech billionaire to be in technology, use technology as your greatest leverage in terms of breakthrough products and services.”

In closing his talk, Nievera told the audience of the importance of using apps — or making them — for their businesses. He stressed: “go forth and appify!”

So shall we.
