THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) is holding Benepisyong Philhealth, Alamin at Gamitin or “ Alaga Ka” program to help indigent Filipinos become members of the country’s universal health coverage which they plan to cover the whole province before the end of April 2015.

Edmund Manuel, OIC of PhilHealth Bataan, heads the program in partnership with the Local Government Unit, DSWD, DOH, Municipal Health Offices and City Health Offices all around Bataan Province.

Mr. Manuel said that “Alaga Ka” aims to empower Filipino families with the benefits of free health insurance from the government. The program teaches the recipients how, when, and where they can avail these PhilHealth packages.

The families who received insurances are determined through the NHTS or National Household Targeting System. This is one of the government’s steps to bring the National Health Insurance Program to Filipinos who can’t afford to have their own health insurances because of financial limitations or geographic isolation.

The members will receive their Membership Data Record (MDR)so that they can update misspelled names, birthdates, and dependents on the event.

Department of Health and Municipal Health Offices will also provide different services such as basic physical check-up, free consultations, blood pressure measurements, and body mass index measurements.

On the other hand, Alaga Ka emphasizes on TSeKaP or Tamang Serbisyo para sa Kalusugan ng Pamilya. TSeKaP provides consultations with a primary care doctor. This service entitles them to preventive and promotive packages. The program will help the members to detect illnesses early. The package includes regular blood pressure monitoring, counselling on breastfeeding, smoking cessation and lifestyle modification, screening services to detect breast and cervical cancers, and digital rectal exam.

To further engage the audience, video presentations will be played to advocate the PhilHealth use. After the discussion and video plays, the members can ask and raise questions for clarification.
