As computer, smartphone, and tablet use have proliferated rapidly throughout the developed world, especially the United States of America, life has become significantly easier, not to mention the ability to quickly find information is now seamless, and requires much less time than how we found answers to questions in yesteryears.

Even though Sentient artificial intelligence seems like something of the future, the sentiment that the technology of artificial intelligence is something our society hasn’t yet mastered – more like, even begun to utilize, in the slightest – is far from the truth. Real-world applications of artificial intelligence are everywhere, especially in the world of search engine optimization.

What Search Engine Technology Used To Consist Of

Today, for example, keyword spamming – the practice of jamming countless mentions of a word or phrase throughout a web page – rarely causes web pages and sites to burst through the top of search results. However, in the past, when search engines first came to practice in the mid-1990s, keyword stuffing was used quite often, even though its utilization was arguably unethical; taking advantage of content that was of quite literally no value to achieve front-page rankings on search engines like Google and Ask Jeeves did nothing but waste searchers’ time and effort, while boosting sites in question to the top of rankings.

In the past, during the aforementioned time period, climbing to the forefront of search rankings required nothing more than one or two keyword or crucial phrase mentions, utilizing a clever, topic-relevant heading and meta description, hide alt tags under image extensions, and evenly disperse such on-topic content throughout an article or web page, you’d likely take home the title of top finisher for a variety of search topics.

The Evolve Of Search Engines

Arguably the only hurdle Google faced in originally refining its search engine was differentiating quality links that actually added value to articles and texts, as opposed to sp many links that provided zero, or even negative value.

As a means of clearing Google’s pages of websites powered by black hat SEO tactics – those that used keyword spamming and other unethical, non-value-added activities – the modern Internet giant then developed Penguin 1.0, which effectively left Google ridden with nothing but quality results. However, doing so practically removed loads of small businesses and underdeveloped sites from the search engine’s registries.

Where Search Engine Optimization Is Today

Today, there are more than 200 variables that Google’s algorithms weigh the value of in regards to each and every web page that populates the pages of Google’s results.

Unfortunately, many criteria that actually provided value to consumers that used – and still use – Google to find web pages aren’t weighed heavily in today’s world of search engines.

This has resulted in websites spending hours on end just to move up one slot on Google, upping the costs of search engine optimization. However, users will rarely run into spam-filled websites, having greatly improved the safety of Internet usage, simultaneously boosting the prevalence of eCommerce.
