The question of space is something quite subjective. The room that might seem enormous for a bathroom is probably below any standards for a bedroom or a living room. The only way to determine if the room you intend to turn into a home office/storage is adequately big is to make a list of all the things you want to put in it. Storage must have a sufficient number of shelves and a home office must have a desk and an office chair. All the rest is quite arbitrary. Sure, the end result may not look like an office in a corporate building, but it can easily be as effective.
You Don’t Need to Fit Everything
The next thing you will have to do is prioritize a bit. There are so many things you may think you need in this room, but it often isn’t the case. Think about a printer for a second. Every office needs printer, but does it absolutely need to be next to your desk? Of course it doesn’t. In fact, having a noisy printer right next to you while you are trying to concentrate on work can significantly harm your productivity. This is why some people decide to place a printer in the hallway just outside of the door. Additionally, while it would be great to have a water cooler in your office, it is one more thing you could live without. This kind of rational thinking might make this crossover between a home office and a storage room more than possible.
It Is Both the Office and a Storage Room
Some people see storage as a place where they simply stack boxes one on top of the other or just throw things they don’t currently need. Still, if this room is going to be an office as well, this simply won’t cut it. An office is not just a place where you have enough space to put a laptop. It is a room where you can relax and focus on the job at hands, which is something you won’t be able to do in a place that is so overcrowded. Precisely because of this, being smart with your space management is the key. One of the things you can do to make things better in this department is hire someone to do the pallet racking for you. In this way, you can rest assured that every inch of the room is put to good use.
As you can see, making your home office and your storage in a single room is far from impossible. It does, however, require quite a bit of work and careful planning. All the room needs are actually these three major features. First of all, it needs to be big enough in order to fit all these furniture pieces and items. Second, it needs to be in a secluded part of the house, so you are not distracted by various noises while working. Finally, it needs to have a good air flow so that your brain gets enough oxygen and that your stored items don’t become moldy. If you have a room that fulfills all three criteria, it may be perfect for you to build a home office/storage in it.
