If you’re almost done with identifying your market and conceptualizing reward for your buyers, you’re now ready to write your product descriptions for you online store. Here are more tips to rock the online selling community:

(You can read part 1 here)

Tone of Voice

When writing product descriptions, it is highly important that your writing styles must convey a proper tone of voice rather than telling it straight.

You may say that aside from the benefits of the product, your product also helps the environment or is supporting a cause. Side note, you may at some point inject humor in your product description.

Be Specific

When writing your product descriptions, ask yourself what your customers would want (or need) to know before buying the item and make sure that the information in your product description addresses those wants or needs.

Here are some of the most common elements included in a product description:

  • Creative name
  • Dimensions
  • Materials
  • Features
  • Function
  • Options

NOTE:

Include one or more product photos. Be creative. The product photos must show how your buyers will be using or benefiting from it.

Search Engine Optimization

If you don’t know SEO, hire a company or a SEO specialist. Simply writing the product description is only a portion of what you can do to keep sales coming in. You need to ensure that your website and your product descriptions are SEO-friendly so that when your customers search them in Google, there’s a big chance that they can find you in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERP). You can do so by researching the keywords and phrases your buyer persona might be using in web searches and then include them in the URLs, Titles, meta tags, and of course in the product descriptions that you write. Be informative, rather than be “pitchy”. Customers can immediately detect if you are just there for the sale. Avoid too much technical jargons.

Hire a Good SEO Writer

Writing product descriptions that are full of grammatical errors are taboo. If you don’t write well, don’t write at all, hire somebody who could. Use more verbs than adjectives. Best of all, hire a good writer who is also good in SEO.
